To find out how to do this for yourself, follow the Instructions Below

Remove the wick part (which ironically looks like a cigarette) empty and rinse out the bulb

Find an oil you like. I chose peppermint because it’s pretty cheap and it makes my house smell cool and clean. I highly recommend to buy any essential oil you like from this page)

Pour the oil into the bulb

DIY Infused Olive Oil. Beautiful handmade inexpensive holiday gifts. Done this and loved it.

DIRECTIONS ;

To make the lemon-infused olive oil:

  • Using a vegetable peeler or paring knife, carefully strip one lemon of its zest. Try to keep each strip long and wide, and avoid getting any of the bitter white pith underneath. Stuff zest strips into your bottle. Set aside.
  • Zest your second lemon, and set aside. (It’s not as important to make the testing pretty with this lemon. Just make sure you’re only getting the zest, and not the pith.)
  • In a saucepan, heat olive oil until a few small bubbles start forming. (If your oil starts smoking, take it off the stove and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.)
  • Scoop zest from the second lemon into the warm olive oil. Let it steep for about 30 minutes.
  • Carefully pour the lemony oil into your bottle over the uncooked strips of lemon zest, making sure not to get any of the cooked lemon zest get in. Don’t overfill.
  • Cork the bottle and store in the refrigerator.
  • Serve drizzled over salads, or in everyday cooking. (Use and/or throw out within 10-14 days.)

To make the rosemary-infused olive oil:

  • Stuff rosemary sprigs into your glass bottle. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, heat olive oil until a few small bubbles start forming.
  • (If your oil starts smoking, take it off the stove and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.)
  • Carefully pour warm oil into the bottle over rosemary. Don’t overfill.
  • Cork the bottle and store in the refrigerator.
  • Serve with bread, drizzled over salads, or in everyday cooking. (Use and/or throw out within 10-14 days.)
To make the chili-infused olive oil:
  • Pour chili flakes into your glass bottle. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, heat olive oil until a few small bubbles start forming.
  • (If your oil starts smoking, take it off the stove and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.)
  • Carefully pour warm oil into the bottle over the chili flakes. Don’t overfill.
  • Cork the bottle and store in the refrigerator.
  • Serve with bread, drizzled over salads, or in everyday cooking.
To make the garlic-infused olive oil:
  • Put the cloves in a bowl with the lime juice. Stir and let sit for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 325 F.
  • Reserving the juice for later, drain the lime juice from the cloves.
  • Spread out the garlic cloves in one layer in a small baking dish.
  • Pour enough olive oil over the garlic so that the cloves are completely immersed.
  • Roast in a hot oven for 30-45 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool. Cloves will darken as they cool.
  • Scoop the cloves from the oil into a bowl using a slotted spoon.
  • Pour the reserved lime juice over the cloves with ½ cup your oil and stir to combine.
  • Pack garlic cloves in an airtight container. Pour enough of the oil over the roasted cloves to cover.
  • Refrigerate until you need to use roasted garlic in other recipes. (I like it smeared on bread)
  • Strain the remaining oil into your (clean, sterilized) glass bottle and use as garlic infused olive oil.

How To Use Castile Soap to replace 15 Household Products | https://herbsandoilsremedies.com/2013/06/how-to-use-castile-soap-to-replace-15-household-products.html

How To Use Castile Soap to replace 15 Household Products

Castile soap is an organic, environmentally friendly, vegetable oil-based soap. It gets its name from the Castile region of Spain where it was first used. It is an environmentally-friendly, natural product completely bio-degradable and Earth-friendly.

It contains no chemicals or harmful effects from usage as it is very mild and gentle on sensitive skin. Castile Soap can be used to potentially replace up to 15 Household products.

How To Use Castile Soap to replace 15 Household Products | https://herbsandoilsremedies.com/2013/06/how-to-use-castile-soap-to-replace-15-household-products.html

The best place to buy Castile soap is on Amazon and Dr. Bronner’s is widely regarded as the best brand. Click here to take a look at the best listing for Castile soap. Several recipes used in making Castile soap also involves the use of Tea Tree Oil.  Tea Tree Oil is an essential oil that has antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic qualities.

I personally recommend this 30 ml bottle of Edens Garden Tea Tree Oil which you can buy on Amazon. Make sure to always dilute Tea Tree Oil before use and do not put it directly on the skin as a precaution…

Here’s the Long list of uses for Castile soap.

  • Hand Soap –: Fill a foaming hand soap dispenser with water, add a squirt of Castile soap. That’s it. If it’s not foamy enough, you can add more, but one squirt was plenty foamy!
  • Shampoo –: Add one part Castile soap to three parts water. If you’d like to add herbs or fragrances, steep them in hot water as if you were making tea, then drain and add. To add oils to moisturize and increase shine, you can use ten to 12 drops of essential oils or 1/2 tsp. of an oil like olive or jojoba works well.
  • An additional suggestion is to add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to 1 cup warm water and use that to rinse
  • Dish Soap – : Method: Use in place of standard dish soap, just a few drops in the sink.
  • Use in Kids’ Bathwater: Method: Use a good squirt in the bathwater, no other soap needed.
  • Baby, Body and Face Wash: Method: For body wash and the kids’ baby wash, we used 1 part Castile soap to 4 parts water. Squirt that on a loofah, and it makes a nice lather. For face wash, I used 3-4 drops, straight.
  • Laundry Detergent: Method: Use 1/8 cup Castile soap in place of your regular detergent. You may also add a dash of baking soda. Or, you can stretch your detergent by diluting it into a solution of two parts water, one part Castile soap and one part laundry detergent.
  • Household Cleaner –: Method: Fill a spray bottle about a 1/4 full with white vinegar. Fill the rest of the bottle up with water, then put in a squirt of Castile soap and add 3 or 4 drops of tea tree oil.
  • Toilet Cleaner –: Method: Squirt in a bit of Castile soap, I just did a quick little ring around the whole toilet. Add a little baking soda, and scrub!
  • Glass Cleaner –: Method: Mix a teaspoon or two of Castile soap (use more or less depending on how dirty your glass is), in a gallon of water, as hot as you can stand. Use this to wash the windows, then dry with a paper towel or microfiber cloth.
  • Baby Wipes –: Method: Fill a pitcher with warm water, add a splash of Castile soap, a splash of olive oil, and a drop of tea tree oil.
  • Roach Repellent: Mix 1 tbsp. of liquid Castile soap with 1 tbsp. of Tabasco sauce and combine with 4 cups of water in a spray bottle. Apply as needed to infested areas.
  • The slightly viscous consistency of the Castile soap will help the Tabasco adhere to the surface.
  • Automatic Dishwasher Soap: Ingredients:1/2 cup liquid Castile soap,1/2 cup water,1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, 3 drops tea tree oil,1/2 cup white vinegar. Stir all ingredients together until blended. Store in a squirt top bottle. Use 2 tablespoons per a load of dishes, shake well before use.
  • Pet Shampoo: We did not try this one because our dog already uses an allergy shampoo (even our dogs have sensitive skin around here), and I was too nervous to try it with her skin.
  • Shaving Lather:  I use razors with the shaving cream built in around the blades, so this is not necessary for me.
  • Castile soap can be used to replace so many different commercial products we use in our home. It can help eliminate chemicals and toxins and save you a huge amount of money as you will longer need to buy expensive health, beauty and cleaning products.

How To Make Homemade Natural Bug Spray

How To Make Homemade Natural Bug Spray

Here’s the perfect DIY tutorial you have been looking for to finally put an end to your bugs worries. Learn How To Make Homemade Natural Bug Spray repellent in simple easy steps to add to your insect repellent arsenal.

It’s non-toxic, smells lovely and keeps the bugs away! This recipe literally takes just seconds to mix up and can be varied based on what you have available.

I have included several variations so you can try whichever one you have the ingredients for and after picking up the main ingredients, this repellent costs less than a $1 per bottle to make.

How To Make Homemade Natural Bug Spray

Ingredients:

How to Make Homemade Bug Spray:

  1. Fill spray bottle (I used 8 ounces) 1/2 full with distilled or boiled water
  2. Add witch hazel to fill almost to the top
  3. Add 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin if using
  4. Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to desired scent. The more oils you use, the stronger the spray will be. My personal favorite mix is Rosemary, Clove, Cajeput, Lavender, Cinnamon and Eucalyptus… it works great and smells good too!

Ingredients:

  • Distilled water
  • witch hazel or rubbing alcohol
  •  dried herbs: peppermint, spearmint, citronella, lemongrass, catnip, lavender, etc.
  •  I recommend using at least one herb from the mint family.
How to Make Bug Spray From Fresh or Dried Herbs:
  1. Boil 1 cup of water and add 3-4 TBSP of dried herbs total in any combination of the above. I use 1 TBSP each of peppermint, spearmint, catnip and lavender, and also throw in a couple of dried cloves.
  2. Mix well, cover and let cool (covering is important to keep the volatile oils in!)
  3. Strain herbs out and mix water with 1 cup of witch hazel or rubbing alcohol. Store in a spray bottle in a cool place (fridge is great because it’s nice and cool!)
  4. Use as needed. Added bonus: it smells great and is very refreshing to the skin!

Vinegar of the Four Thieves Insect Repellent Ingredients:

  • 1 32 ounces bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 TBSP each of dried Sage, Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme, and Mint
  • At least quart size glass jar with airtight lid

How to Make the Vinegar of the Four Thieves Insect Repellent:

  1. Put the vinegar and dried herbs into a large glass jar.
  2. Seal tightly and store on counter or place you will see it daily. Shake well each day for 2-3 weeks.
  3. After 2-3 weeks, strain the herbs out and store in spray bottles or tincture bottles, preferably in the fridge.
  4. To use on skin, dilute to half with water in a spray bottle and use as needed.
  5. Use whenever you need serious bug control!
How To Make Homemade Natural Bug Spray
  • [Note: This mixture is very strong and has antiviral and antibacterial properties. It can also be used as a tincture for any illness.
  • For adults, a dose is 1 TBSP in water several times a day, for kids over 2, a dose is 1 tsp in water several times a day.
  • Spray a small amount near your ankle to test for a skin reaction before spritzing all over, taking care to avoid the face area.

This repellent is safe to reapply every 30 minutes as needed. Or spray directly on bugs, indoors or out, or on tables or along window sills to deter their pesky attention
