For Starter, Making soap without lye is not possible, soap is an alkali (like sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) combined with fats. Together they go through a reaction called “saponification” and in the end, you are left with soap. So, by the very definition of “soap”, you cannot have soap without lye but do note that lye is a caustic substance and you definitely shouldn’t drink it or take a bath in it. But, really, it’s not any worse than bleach or ammonia. make sure you check out this lye  safety guide first!

It is worth noting that every bar of proper soap you’ve ever used in your life has been made with lye, so if those were fine, yours will be as well. The only real way you can get a “soap” without using lye is to add a surfactant like sodium sulfate to water. Surfactants create lather, so you’re basically just getting leathery water that will basically act as an industrial strength detergent.

Melt & Pour Soap Base

Melt and pour soap is a very good way to dive into soap making if the reader does not want to handle the lye. This method allows you to forgo the hazards of working with caustic lye, while enjoying the creativity of soap making, However, the melt and pour soap or glycerine blocks were all originally formulated with lye.

  • Coconut Oil, Palm Oil
  • Safflower Oil,
  • Glycerin (kosher, of vegetable origin),
  • Purified Water,
  • Sodium Hydroxide (Saponifying agent, i.e. lye),
  • Sorbitol (moisturizer),
  • Sorbitan oleate (emulsifier),
  • Soy bean protein (conditioner)

This is the brand of melt-and-pour soap that I’ve used before, and it worked really well. You can add scents with essential oils, etc. If you want to create a personalized soap.

  • A digital scale (this is important for making a soap that is not too harsh or too oily)
  • Glass jars and bowls
  • A stick blender 
  • plastic cups (optional)
  • A metal spoon

  • A large bottle of white vinegar for neutralizing the lye mixture if it spills on anything.

At this point, you can also decide on any add-ins for your soap to customize the color, scent or texture. In the past, I’ve used:

  • Dried herbs (for texture or color)- my favorites are dried lavender flowerscalendula, though any dried herbs could be added.{You can use as much as you want}

  • Texture add-ins– like dry freshly ground coffee, healing clay, salts, oatmeal or any other ingredient. {You can use as much as you want}


  • Grate 8 ounces of soap. (Two regular size bars.) you can use a cheese grater or a  stick blender. { make sure to use a soap free of chemical and fragrance
  • Proceed to Sprinkle some water {1-2 ounces} or other liquid like coffee, green tea,  infused herbs, coconut milk  over the grated soap (depending on your preference)
  •  Place the mixture in a double boiler or crock pot. The next step is to put the heat on using a  low setting in an oven-safe pot and heat in the oven at the lowest setting.
  • Stir frequently to avoid burning. This can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. When soap is liquefied, remove from heat. It will like a  lumpy and translucent mixture at this stage.
  • The next step is to add your favorite essential oil/s. and any other desired ingredients such as dried herbs, texture add in, colors. Stir extremely well to your desired consistency.
  • Prepare your molds, by lining your mold with parchment paper for easy removal. Proceed to add your soap mixture into molds using a spoon

  • Allow the Soap mold to cool and set for 24 hours.  To shorten the wait time, (you can place the mold in a freezer for up to 1 hour to make this easier). Cut into desired sizes and shapes using a soap cutter or a food scraper
  • Allow the soap to air dry for a few day or more { this depends mainly on the amount of liquid used in initial preparation. the more liquid you use the longer it takes and the less smooth the outcome is.
  • Do make certain that the soap is completely dry and hard to extend the shelf life. I also allow the soap to dry very well in-between use.

  • 1 tbsp Olive, Coconut, or Sweet Almond Oil
  • Purple Food Colouring (Optional)


  • In a large bowl, combine salt and body wash, and mix until well combined.
  • Add in your oil, essential oil and food colouring and mix well.

The benefits of a detox bath vary by the type of bath it is. Some are geared towards drawing out toxic heavy metals. Others are designed to get you to sweat excessively so that you can get other toxins out of your body.

Some use aromatherapy to help relax the mind and detox you by helping to release toxic thought patterns. Overall, you simply feel better after taking a detox bath, and the added ingredients make it more effective than simply taking a regular bath.

Salt Detox Bath Recipe

  • Favorite essential oil if desired (I use 10 drops of peppermint or lavender)

Salt Detox Bath Instructions

Dissolve Salt, epsom salt, and baking soda in boiling water in a quart size jar and set aside. Fill the tub with warm/hot water and add apple cider vinegar. Pour salt mixture in and add essential oils if using.

Soak in bath for 30 minutes or as long as desired. Note that with any detox bath, you may feel tired or lightheaded when you get out. I don’t recommend doing this while home alone or before going somewhere in case you are tired or need help.

This bath is great for soothing skin irritation, boosting magnesium levels and overall detoxing.

Clay Detox Bath Recipe

  • Essential oils if desired

Clay Detox Bath Instructions

Dissolve the epsom salts in a warm/hot bath and add essential oils if desired. For the clay there are two options:

Vigorously mix the clay into a small amount of water until the clumps are mostly dissolved. Do not use metal for this! I mix with a plastic spoon in a glass jar.

Add the clay mix to the bath and soak for at least 20 minutes.

Mix that clay with a small amount of water to make a paste. Stand in the tub full of water and rub the clay mix all over your body to create a skin mask and let dry for 5 minutes before sitting down.

This provides direct contact with the skin and effectively pulls toxins from the skin. Soak in the bath at least 20 minutes or as long as desired.

While soaking, use a washcloth to scrub any remaining clay off the skin.

This bath is great for removing a lot of toxins as the clay binds to heavy metals and the epsom salts help pull a variety of toxins from the body while replenishing magnesium levels.

Oxygen Detox Bath Recipe


Fill the tub with warm/hot water and add the hydrogen peroxide and dried Ginger.

Soak in the tub for 30 minutes or as long as desired.

This bath is especially helpful during illness as the ginger helps clear congestion or alleviate body aches.

It can also be helpful for allergies or skin irritation.

Essential Oils Detox Bath

You can turn a bath into a sensory sensation just by adding some essential oils to it. It’s customized detoxing in a tub!  whether you’re feeling stressed, depressed, worn out, or if you’re having a headache. There’s an essential oil for that.

Essential Oils Detox Bath Recipe

  • Handful of Epsom’s salts
  • Half cup of baking soda
  • Lavender – Calming ( 10 drops of essential oil )
  • Grapefruit – Uplifting
  • Peppermint – Fatigue
  • Cedarwood – Depression
  • Chamomile & Rosemary – A headache


  • This combo draws out toxins, lowers stress-related hormones, and balances your pH levels.
  • Rinse yourself with a cool shower for 5 minutes to wash away all excreted body toxins and close your skin’s pores.  Then drink at least 2 glass of filtered water in the hours following.
  • You can garnish with any type of fruit and/or thinly sliced cucumber

Ginger Detox Bath

You can use either fresh grated ginger or ginger powder. Add ½ a cup of freshly grated ginger or a rounded teaspoon of ginger powder in hot or warm water and soak for 15-20 minutes. Please remember that the ginger bath will make you sweat profusely for at least an hour afterward, so wear a bathrobe or sweat clothes.

Make sure you drink plenty of water after the bath. If you have sensitive skin or are allergy-prone, test ginger on your skin for irritation before the bath.

Dry yourself off after the bath, but don’t be surprised if you continue sweating for a couple of hours afterward. It will make you sleepy, so you may want to head straight to bed. Be sure to drink water before going to bed, and have water handy if you wake up in the night.

Baking Soda Detox

  • Baking Soda: sodium bicarbonate softens the bath water by eliminating the chlorine, which can be drying to the skin. Baking Soda will also assist the body in its absorption of the magnesium in the Epsom Salt.
  • Epsom salt: Magnesium sulfate is extremely rich in the elements that promote the body’s detoxification process.

Combining both of the above ingredients in a 1-part Epsom Salt to a 2-part Baking Soda mixture creates enough of this basic detox bath for one (1) 30-minute soak.  For a first detox bath, measure 1 cup of Epsom Salt and 2 cups of Baking Soda, add them while drawing hot bath water, and fill the tub 2/3 of the way full.  Soak for at least one-half hour.

Other ingredients may be added to this basic detox bath, depending upon the natural health practitioners’ needs and desires.  For instance, salt can be very drying to the skin.  Therefore, adding 10 drops of glycerin to the water works to counterbalance this reaction.

You can also moisturize your skin with pure, unscented aloe gel after the bath to keep your skin healthy and supple.

For an aroma-therapeutic effect, about 20 drops of an essential oil can be used to add fragrance or stimulate the body’s metabolic processes.

Epsom Salt Detox

1. Add 5-10 drops essential oil (I love lavender) to 2 cups Epsom salt, then add to a standard tub full of water.

2. Ideally, you want the water quite hot as we are looking to create a nice sweat.

3. If your bath water is not filtered, add 1 cup of baking soda as this helps neutralize the chemicals, primarily chlorine, as well as increase mineral absorption.

4. Immerse yourself in the water, all the way up to your neck. You want as much of your body underwater as you can. Close your eyes, do some breathing exercises and soak for at least 20 minutes.

5. Once you are done soaking, rise out of the tub very slowly and cautiously. You may feel a little dizzy and light-headed, this will go away as you shower off quickly in cool water.

6. It is important not to use harsh soaps or shampoos as your pores are open and will just absorb the chemicals found in those products.

7. Once dry you can apply a natural moisturizer like body butter, Shea butter or coconut oil and some aluminum-free deodorant, but again no lotions with perfumes, dyes or chemicals.

8. Do not eat immediately before or after taking a detox bath.

9. Instead hydrate yourself with filtered water before and after.

10. Allow time after your bath to rest and rejuvenate.

Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Bath

The apple cider vinegar detox bath is great for arthritis, gout and other inflammatory body ailments.

When pouring your bath, add 1-2 cups of pure apple cider vinegar. Soak in the tub for up to 30 minutes.

Remember, hot water is best for all detox baths, as hot water is what is needed to help detoxify as it opens the pores of the skin. Keep water handy as well as a washcloth, as this bath will make you sweat! Drink some water while you are running the bath too.

Dry yourself off after the bath, but don’t be surprised if you continue sweating for a couple of hours afterward. You may find the vinegar detox bath makes you sleepy, so you may want to head straight to bed after you hop out of the tub.

Be sure to drink water before going to bed, and have water handy if you wake up in the night so you can keep hydrated. Be sure to check with your doctor if you have any conditions such as a heart condition or high blood pressure before using this natural apple cider vinegar detox bath recipe.

Eucalyptus detox bath

In a small bowl, combine the ingredients and allow to rest for 10 minutes (about the amount of time it takes for you to get ready for a bath!). Pour the mixture into your warm/hot bath water and soak!

The eucalyptus will help rid your congestion from a stuffy nose.

Magnetic Clay Detox Bath

  • Use 1/4 to 1/2 cups of clay
  • Take baths once every 5 to ten days depending on health stamina.
  • Keep Water temperature to 102-104° for Detox Bath.
  • Immerse yourself in the water, all the way up to your neck. You want as much of your body underwater as you can.
  • Close your eyes, do some breathing exercises and soak for at least 20 minutes.
  • The contraindications for clay baths are a heart condition, high blood pressure, taking prescription medicine and pregnancy. Always consult with your doctor if you are on medication, have a chronic condition or have a special health concern.

Additional Detox Bath Notes

  • The warmer the water, the more powerful the detox effect will be.
  • If you have chlorine and fluoride in your water, I recommend adding a few tablespoons of bentonite clay to any of these baths to help absorb the chemicals so they aren’t absorbed into the skin.
  • Any of these natural ingredients can be used alone or in combination for a cleansing effect.
  • All recipes can be doubled or tripled but this will increase the detox effect.
  • I recommend starting slowly with this or any health change.

How to Remove Grease Stains Fast

Learn how to remove grease stains from clothing etc. Stop throwing out clothing because of grease and oil stains you think will never come out or stop spending money on more expensive pre-treaters.

Using these simple trick will help you to save money and get stubborn stains out of your clothing fast! Over the years, I have tried a few different methods in combating stains.

Some worked really well while well, others failed miserably. In this Post, We will explore all the various stain removal methods that worked well in a non-toxic, chemical-free way.

This homemade grease stain remover is awesome! It works on almost any stain, even old ones. AMAZING!

How to Remove Grease Stains 1

Here’s what I did to learn how to remove the grease stains and make it look as good as new again.

!. Put a few squirts of dish soap on the stain and gently agitate with your fingers, a soft wet toothbrush, or by rubbing the fabric together.

2. Let sit for about 15-30 minutes.

3. Rinse thoroughly.

At this point, I couldn’t tell if the stain was there or not, so I proceeded with the next step just in case.

4. Add 1-2 T. of baking soda and again agitate.

5. Let sit for another 15-30 minutes.

6. Wash in cold water as normal.

7.  Check to see if the stain is out and if not, repeat steps. I let mine air dry and the stain was completely gone.

The most important thing is to treat as soon as possible and NOT wash the stain ahead of time. Treat first, then wash. Do not dry. These will set in the stain and make it the stain a lot harder to get out.

Another addition to the above method is to try soaking the stain with plain white vinegar, peroxide, or washing soda for a while, it helps get the stain out without laundering.

This has been my go-to method for removing stains for a long time. It’s super easy and doesn’t require any fancy or toxic stain sticks or chemicals. No more buying of expensive stain pre-treaters!

Method 2

  • Rub white chalk directly on the grease or oil mark. The chalk will absorb the grease
  • Wash your clothes like normal
  • If the stain didn’t come out all the way, let fabric air dry and repeat above (before placing item in the dryer. Dryers set stains)

Method 3

  • Dab off as much grease as possible.
  • Apply real eucalyptus essential oil to the stain. This stain only require a few drops- most stains need just one or two drops.{Eucalyptus and lemon essential oils are known for their grease cutting ability and are excellent stain removers .}
  • Let it work for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash in whatever temperature is best for the material. For this shirt, I could only use cold water. If the material can handle it, warm water would work even better.
  • DO NOT put the clothing into the dryer- just air dry. If the stain isn’t completely removed, apply eucalyptus oil and wash, again.
  • Most of the time, it only takes one application. For this stain, there is still a tiny hint of the original grease stain, so I’ll reapply and rewash.
  • Always be sure that the stain is completely gone by air drying before putting the clothing through the dryer. The heat from the dryer can “set” the stain.

Method 4

  • Gently wash the greasy area (too wet it) and then thickly pat talcum powder on the greasy stain and on the underside of the garment/stained area {We also use cornstarch the same way talcum powder is used. Cornstarch works great and is pure}.
  • Then, let it air-dry completely (overnight or whatever) before brushing off the powder. It usually works like a miracle!
  • if the grease is colored, like say red or yellow (food stains), gently wash the fabric with soap and water to remove most of the colour before pressing in the talcum powder.
  • Repeat the procedure twice or thrice for stubborn stains.

Lestoil or Pine Sol

It’s weird, to be sure, to use a product most of us think of as the stuff with which we clean the floors, but both Lestoil (which is my poison) and Pine Sol work exceedingly well as grease- and oil stain removers. Both are made by the same company (Clorox). I highly recommend these products. (Please keep these products out of reach of children and Pets)

When a grease stain sullies an item of clothing in my care: I dab the stain with a bit of Lestoil or Pine Sol, and then launder as usual, remembering to pull the garment out of the wash to air dry before transferring the rest of the load to the dryer.



The bad news is that there’s no magical quick and easy way to remove Stains instantly from anything. The good news is that with patience, a little knowledge, natural stain removal ingredients work well and you can remove grease stains from just about everything. Hopefully, when you remove those stubborn stains from your laundry, it will look as good as new again!
